Suikerjam evolved from jams in living rooms, factory halls, pastures and even the waiting room of a dental care practice.
Initiators Maurits, Theun and Daniel aim to enable ‘making music together in a safe space’ regularly. We want to inspire musicians to expand their musical framework, let go of expectations and embark on a journey of discovery together.
A musical breeding ground without fixed styles and expectations.
Music connects and inspires through shared experience, fun and knowledge, which is why Suikerjam is not just a musical initiative, but also a social initiative. We discovered that this form of jamming is also
a lot of fun for spectators because they are so close to the creative process that they end up becoming part of it and experience how music is born.
Suikerjam is not tied to a specific place. We keep looking for wonderful, cozy and safe environments in which to create music. At the same time we have found a great base at TOKO, on the Suikerunie terrain in the city of Groningen.
A wonderful location where we can make (amplified) music without being overly tied to specific times or other limits! Wonderful!
We thank the Cultural Participation Fund, which supported us for a year in 2023 in experimenting with the concept.
